(NEW AUDIO & POST) Spotting & Avoiding the Trap of The Seven Deadly Sins (vices) of Life

We have all heard of the so-called “seven deadly sins”.  It is a play on Dante’s Inferno, Roman Catholic doctrine dating back to the 14th century and the scriptures in Proverbs 6: 16-19 and Galatians 5:19-21.  All of the above list out 7 vices or cardinal sins that lead to the downfall of us as human beings. It is a code of ethics and spiritual ethics from which man is to keep himself pure or risk the consequences of his actions.

Last night’s Scandal/ABC episode was a great example of several of the deadly sins in action. Olivia Pope the lead character played by actress Kerry Washington finally got caught in her own web of “fixing”. She has been sleeping with a married man (LUST). She has been her own best counsel, counselor and guide (PRIDE). She helped steal an election so that Fitz (her beloved) could become President (GREED). And the list runs on and on.  For the first time in the hit series we saw a depressed, afraid, and damaged Olivia. She needed protecting from her own choices. She exercised no self-control and she succumbed as many of us do to the 7 deadly vices of life.

Let’s break them out:

Pride is excessive belief in one’s own abilities, that interferes with the individual’s recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise.  Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy is the desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

My message for today is recorded on the podcast at 559-726-1299 code 874081 LISTEN.  I think it will help you to put into practice (Guarding your heart & exercising Self Control).  These two virtues can change your entire destiny for good. And keep the seven deadly sins away from your heart and your life.
